What You Need to Get Started:

  • A PPP Dial-Up account from Northwest Advantage
  • Your PPP Login (user) name
  • Your PPP Login password
  • Your E-mail address(s) as assigned by Northwest Advantage
  • Your E-mail password (if different from your Login password)
  • Your Microsoft Internet Explorer v3.03 for Windows 3.1x Installation diskettes

Step 1: Install MS Internet Explorer v3.03

  1. Insert Disk labeled Disk 1 of 4 into floppy disk drive.
  2. Choose Run from the Program Manager File menu.
  3. Type A:\SETUP (or B:\SETUP) and choose OK.
  4. Follow the on-screen commands to install Microsoft Internet Explorer v3.03 onto your Hard Drive

 

  1. When the "Choose the type of installation…" screen appears, click Complete.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. In the "Choose Program Group" window, select "Microsoft Internet Explorer" as the program group to install to, and click Continue.

 

 

 

 

 

  1. At this point, Setup will attempt to detect your modem. To have Setup automatically detect your modem, click

 

 

 

 

  1. When Setup has finished searching for your modem, a description will appear in the box. If this is correct, click . If this is not correct, click and put an X in the "Do not detect my modem…" box, to select a different modem from a list.

 

 

 

  1. At the "Locations Information" screen, type in your area code and any number you may need to dial to get an outside line. Note: If you are dialing from a location that has call waiting, it is highly recommended that enter the appropriate code used to disable it, such as *70, etc. When finished, click .
  2.  

  3. Once the setup on your modem is successful, click Finish to complete the process.

 

  1. You may receive a dialog box that requires you to shut down your computer. Click OK to continue. When you click OK, another dialog box will appear which says, "Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.03 Setup was completed successfully". Click OK again.+
  2. At this point, you must restart your computer so that the settings will take effect. Remove all floppy disks from the drives, and choose File, Exit Windows from Program Manager, and choose OK. After windows has closed, shut off your computer, turn it back on, and return to Windows.
  3. After you have successfully installed Microsoft Internet Explorer, proceed to Step 2.

 

Step 2: Setup your Internet Connection and E-mail and News Preferences

  1. Click, "Get on Internet" Icon in Microsoft Internet Explorer window
  2. At the "Get Connected" screen, choose

 

  1. At the "Setup Options" screen, choose "Manual" and click

 

 

  1. In the "Service Provider Information" screen, type in NW Advantage and click
  2.  

     

  3. At the "Phone Number" screen, enter the Area Code and Phone Number you will be dialing when you wish to access the Internet:

    • In the "Area Code" box, enter 509 and press <Tab> key on your keyboard
    • In the "Telephone Number" box, type 252-3346.
    • After you are finished entering the Area Code and Phone Number, Click

 

  1. At the "User Name and Password" screen, type in your User Name and Password as assigned by NW Advantage in the appropriate spaces.
  2. Refer to your "Internet Account Information" sheet that you received from NW Advantage. Your User Name and Password can be found under Account Information section labeled "Login (User) Name" and "Login Password" respectively. Note: You must Type your User Name and Password exactly as shown, being careful to enter capital and lower case letters exactly as indicated.

After you have finished typing in your User Name and Password, click to continue.

  1. At "IP Address" screen, choose the option · My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one, and click
to continue.

 

  1. At "DNS Server Address" screen, in "DNS Server" box, type 207.170.237.10 . In the "Alternate DNS" box, type 207.170.196.61 . Once you have finished typing, click to continue.

 

  1. At the "Internet Mail" setup screen, choose YES and click
to continue.

 

 

 

  1. At the "Mail User Name and Password" screen, type your POP3 user name and your e-mail password exactly as shown on your account setup sheet. Once you are finished click
to continue.

 

  1. At the "Mail Server Address" screen, type your full name, your assigned e-mail address in the respective boxes. In the POP3 and SMTP server boxes, enter mail.nwadv.com as shown. Once you are finished, click
to continue.

 

  1. At "Internet News" screen, choose YES and click
to continue.

 

 

 

 

  1. At the "News User Name and Password" screen, enter the following information in the text boxes provided:

  • Full Name: (Type your own name)
  • E-mail Address: Type your e-mail address - example: johndoe
    @nwadv.com)
  • User Name: (Type your Login Name without the P- example: johndoe "not Pjohndoe")
  • Password: (Type your Login Password)
  • News Server: (Type the following: news.ieway.com)

Once you have finished entering the information above, click to continue.

  1. At the "Complete Configuration" screen, click
.

 

 

 

 

  1. You will be prompted to choose a Program Group where you would like an icon to be placed. To avoid possible confusion, we recommend you choose the Program Group, Microsoft Internet Explorer. After you are finished, click OK to finish the setup process.

 

 

 

 

Step 4: Dialing in and Getting Connected

  1. Once you have successfully completed the above steps, an icon labeled NW Advantage will appear inside the "program group" you chose in Step 11.
  2. Double-click your NW Advantage

connection icon. You will see the Connect To dialog box. If the spaces are blank, type your Login Name and Password in the appropriate boxes. Again, this account information is listed on the "Internet Account Information" sheet you received from NW Advantage

  1. Click
. Your modem will start dialing, and after a few rings, Northwest Advantage's terminal server will answer. You will see a dialog box similar to the one below, letting you know you are dialing and when a connection has been established. Only click the Disconnect button when you are done using the Internet services.

 

  1. Once you have established a connection, MS Internet Explorer should load automatically. Note: You can also connect to the Internet double-clicking the Internet Explorer icon while off-line. Internet Explorer will automatically look for an open connection, and if none is detected, will prompt you with the "Connect To" box. Once the connection has been established, Internet Explorer will automatically start up.
